CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES!!

DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES OPEN!!

Municipal Parking Lots in the area (see map below) are open and accessible for access to downtown businesses and pedestrian access to the businesses will be maintained at all times.

Businesses in the construction zone that can be accessed via Burden Avenue include Grace Lutheran Child Development Center, Skinners Service, Julie's Unique Salon, Bodi's Bake Shop and Eye Site. Use either Toms Avenue or Hunt Avenue (north of the downtown) to access limited short term parking in the business lots at Burden and Main Street.

Other businesses in the construction zone, including Advantage Title and Closing Services, Twin Lakes Realty, Law Offices of Smith and Janik, Dr. Kaske Family Dentistry, Crawford Pediatric and Adult Orthodontics, Vickie Bushnell State Farm Agency, Coldwell Banker Primus Realty, Main Street Tap, Bella Boutique, Doggydo's and Kitty's Too, Dr. Kempken Family Dentistry, Croz Pub and Grub and Rumpoles, should use the Municipal Parking Lot on Basset Street west of South Lake Avenue or the Municipal Parking Lot on the east side of South Lake Avenue between the Subway Restaurant and the Corner Kitchen Restaurant. Additional parking for Julie's Salon, Bodi's Bakery and Eye Site are also available in these locations.

Access to the businesses at the west end of the closed area, including Advanced Health Care Center, the Fire Station and Stan's Lumber, is preserved with parking in the normal locations.

Other businesses in the Twin Lakes Downtown area are open as well. Use the bypass road or follow the detour, which uses North Lake Avenue (CTH EM), Holy Hill Road and Burlington Avenue (CTH O), to reach west side businesses such as The Sands Restaurant and Martini Lounge, Studio 11, Mad Dan's, Twin Lakes Report, Century 21 Larry Hodges Realty, Warehouse Fashion Floors, Dooley and Associates, H&R Block and Village Hall. East side businesses welcoming customers via the bypass or detour include, the All Star Video, Twin Lakes Liquors, Corner Kitchen, Subway, the Community Library, Twin Lakes Laundry, Family Head Quarters, Bahr and Kadlec, CPA, Mortgage Loans, Touch of Class, and the Straw Hat.

Each of Twin Lakes' businesses welcomes the opportunity to serve all customers.

New Bypass Road Available

The Twin Lakes Village Board authorized use of a temporary construction bypass road built on private property south of the construction zone. With the cooperation of these owners, the Village has constructed a gravel road that will allow car traffic to bypass the construction without using the full detour route. Truck traffic is required to use the full detour. Travelers going to or coming from the northeast side of the Village may still find the posted detour advantageous. The location of the temporary road, which runs from the property east of the Advanced Healthcare Center parking lot to the Basset Street Municipal parking lot, is shown in the map below. Construction on the Main Street Reconstruction Project began on Monday, June 14, 2010 . After posting of detour signage and other preparations, the contractor began underground utility work on Wednesday, June 16. The section of Main Street in downtown Twin Lakes will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the project, which is expected to be complete by the end of October. Downtown businesses remain open and Municipal parking lots in the area are open and accessible for access to these businesses . Pedestrian access to the businesses will be maintained at all times.

The Village began working on plans to rehabilitate Main Street and parts of North and South Lake Avenue in the downtown area in conjunction with a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District established in 2008. The project was initially shelved due to insufficient revenue projected in the TIF District. In 2009, the Village received two grants through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) in the total amount of $1 million to assist in funding the first of that work on the block of Main Street between the North/South Lake Avenue and Burden Avenue intersections. The intersections will also be rebuilt in the project.

The project involves nearly complete rehabilitation of the Right of Way area from sidewalk to sidewalk. The underground work will include installation of new storm sewers, sections of new sanitary sewer and installation of water pipes for an eventual fire suppression water system. At the surface, the work will include replacement of the sidewalks and the street as well as installation of new street trees, street lights and other landscape and streetscape improvements.

For the duration of the project, traffic will be detoured around the one-block section using CTH Z/Holy Hill Road . Downtown businesses will remain open for customers. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times except when actual sidewalk-related work is occurring in front of the business. Business customer traffic to the downtown will be directed to the municipal parking lot adjacent to the Chamber building via the Basset Street entrance.
